The E-myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber

The E Myth Revisited Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited should be required reading for anyone thinking about starting a business or for those who have already taken that fateful step. The title refers to the author's belief that entrepreneurs--typically brimming with good but distracting ideas--make poor businesspeople. He establishes an incredibly organised and regimented plan, so that daily details are scripted, freeing the entrepreneur's mind to build the long-term success or failure of the business. You don't need an MBA to understand or follow its directives; Gerber takes time to explain buzzwords and complex theories. Written in a clear and well-paced manner, The E-Myth Revisited is like receiving advice from an old friend.

Working with Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman

Working with Emotional Intelligence Working With Emotional Intelligence takes the concepts from Daniel Goleman's bestseller, Emotional Intelligence, into the workplace. Business leaders and outstanding performers are not defined by their IQs or even their job skills, but by their "emotional intelligence": a set of competencies that distinguishes how people manage feelings, interact and communicate. Analyses done by dozens of experts in 500 corporations, government agencies and non- profit organizations worldwide conclude that emotional intelligence is the barometer of excellence on virtually any job. This book explains what emotional intelligence is and why it counts more than IQ, or expertise, for excelling on the job. It details 12 personal competencies based on self-mastery (such as accurate self- assessment, self- control, initiative and optimism) and 13 key relationship skills (such as service orientation, developing others, conflict management and building bonds). Goleman includes many examples and anecdotes--from Fortune 500 companies to a non-profit preschool--that show how these competencies lead to or thwart success.

You don’t need a title to be a leader by Mark Sanborn

You don’t need a title to be a leader 'Despite popular myth, leaders - whether titled or untitled - aren't born. They learn how to lead. The real test of leadership is, if you had no title or ability to reward or penalize others, could you still get them to follow you?' In this powerful follow-up to "The Fred Factor", world-renowned motivational speaker Mark Sanborn explains how each of us can be a leader in whatever we do - regardless of our title or position. He sets down the key skills that genuine leaders have mastered, and encourages us all to apply them, wherever we may be in the pecking order. It states that genuine leaders: plan ahead, thinking about where they're heading before they begin; are terrific at communicating and at listening; and care about the success of the entire team and look for ways to encourage useful contributions from everyone. By following Mark Sanborn's advice you can take control of your life, seize new opportunities, and maybe even make the world a little better. And you don't need a title to do it.

Give me time by The Mind Gym

Give me time This is an excellent book which addresses the problem of time - not in any Stephen Hawking way, but more in a straight to the point 'hit me with it' kind of way. Many people will find this of use in their everyday lives; perhaps if they've got children or stuff like that. I've found it of immense use in my professional life. I'm an executive manager in a fairly large underwear firm. My time is under constant pressure from customers, suppliers and (most annoyingly) my staff. The teachings of this book have enabled me to 'segment' my time and to, in effect, multi-task far more efficiently. Previously, I didn't have time to say 'good morning', field phone calls, deal with staff personal issues, hammer out deals etc within the same time 'segments'. I felt like a cow on an endless treadmill of milking, eating, milking. With The Mind Gym's guidance, my staff can still grab hold of my udders but I'm also able to chat to customers, clinch deals and (yes) smell the flowers, as I lie back being milked. Great stuff for your personal or professional life!
